Things to do in Gansbaai

Gansbaai in South Africa is the Mecca of the marine "Big Five". On one day you may see all five of them: The Great White Shark, apex predator of the sea; several species of whales, weighing up to sixty ton; schools of different dolphins chasing sardines and anchovis; the Cape Fur Seals, knowns as one of the oceans best hunters and the funny African penquins. Canoeing with the whales is worth trying from the beautiful town of Hermanus, close to Gansbaai.

Horseriding is a nearby activity as well as mountain biking for the more active visitor. Use our mountain bikes or hire a fat bike and explore the sand dunes and fynbos of De Plaat in the Walker Bay Nature Reserve.

There is really a lot to do in Gansbaai and road trips in the Overberg will take you to Cape agulhas, the most southern point of Africa or De Hoop nature Reserve with certainly the best sightings of Southern Right whales giving birth to their six ton calves. De Hoop also offers you herds of eland in their hunderds.
